Dr. T. S. Joshi is a visionary leader whose remarkable contributions to the field of education have left an indelible impact on the landscape of Indian education. With over four decades of experience in teaching, administration and educational research, he has been a driving force in the development and transformation of educational system in Gujarat and beyond. From the 27 th February, 2025, he has assumed the charge of the third full time Vice- Chancellor of Children’s Research University. As evident through his vast academic career, he is committed to steering the institution towards academic excellence, innovation and research, while continuing to shape the future of children’s studies.
His career began humbly as a classroom teacher and has evolved into an illustrious journey in the field of educational leadership. Known for his strategic approach to policy- making and academic administration, he has successfully led several pioneering initiatives aimed at improving the quality of education in Gujarat. His tenure as Director of the Gujarat Council for Educational Research and Training (GCERT) marked a period of significant reform, including his leadership in the Gujarat School Accreditation Program Gunotsav 2.0, GSQAC, S.L.A., B.Ed., which ensured quality education across over 33,000 government primary schools in the state.
His work has always emphasised the importance of empowering educators to be the key drivers of change. As a leading force in teacher training and development in Gujarat, he has impacted over 2.5 lakh teachers by fostering a culture of continuous professional growth. His work in curriculum design, particularly in developing 71 textbooks for grades 1-8, along with his role in aligning educational frameworks with the Right to Education Act (RTE), has helped millions of students access a more progressive and relevant education.
His influence extends far beyond the borders of Gujarat and India. With a wealth of international experience, he has collaborated with global educational institutions and participated in research dialogues on educational reform. His visits to countries like the United Kingdom and Finland have enriched his understanding of international best practices in education, which he has striven to bring back to India to adapt and implement in local contexts.
As a key member of various prestigious national committees, including the National Curriculum Committee and the NEP Task Force Committee of 2020, he has played a pivotal role in shaping India's educational policies. His work continues to impact the development of teacher education, curriculum reforms and pedagogical innovations that shape the future of education across the nation.
