About Department
The Home Science Department is one of the important units of the Children’s University reflecting the vision and mission of the university. The department is an integral part of the school of nutrition and health. The department has been functioning since 2018 with an aim to nurture the students and help them transform into competent professionals in the field of food and nutrition. The department believes in all-round development of its students by providing them quality academic, research and field exposure; and arranges various academic, research and the extension activities accordingly. Home Science is vast and varied. Its scope extends far beyond the ‘home’ and is not limited to cooking, laundry, needlework, and home decoration. In fact, it is the only subject which prepares young learners for the two most important goals in their lives - looking after their home and family and preparing for a career or vocation in life. The department is currently offering M.Sc. (Foods and Nutrition), PG Diploma in Dietetics and Ph.D. (Home Science) courses. All these courses are designed in such a way that they align with all the requirements of the government and private sectors institutions working in the areas of food - nutrition and health.
ગૃહવિજ્ઞાન વિભાગ વિશે થોડુંક...
ચિલ્ડ્રન્સ યુનિવર્સિટી, ગાંધીનગરનો ગૃહવિજ્ઞાન વિભાગ યુનિવર્સિટીના વિઝન-મિશનને પ્રતિબિંબિત કરતો અને તેની સિદ્ધિ માટે કાર્યરત એવો એક મહત્ત્વનો એકમ છે. હાલ ગૃહવિજ્ઞાન વિભાગ દ્વારા આહાર અને પોષણ વિષયમાં અનુસ્નાતક (M.Sc. In Foods and Nutrition), PG Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics અને Ph.D. (Home Science)ના અભ્યાસક્રમો ચલાવવામાં આવે છે. આ અભ્યાસક્રમોનો મુખ્ય હેતુ વિદ્યાર્થીઓને આહાર અને પોષણ સંબંધિત વિષયોમાં શ્રેષ્ઠ શિક્ષણ અને સંશોધન તેમજ ક્ષેત્રીય અનુભવો પૂરા પાડી વિદ્યાર્થીઓને આહાર અને પોષણ સંભાળના નિપુણ વ્યવસાયી તરીકે તૈયાર કરવાનો છે. શિક્ષણ, પ્રશિક્ષણ, સંશોધન અને વિસ્તરણ એમ ચારેય આયાઓમાં સમગ્રતાથી યુનિવર્સિટીનો હૉમ સાયન્સ વિભાગ કામ કરે છે.

આયુર્વેદ તથા આધુનિક આહાર વિજ્ઞાનનો સમન્વય કરી વિશુદ્ધ આહાર- પ્રણાલી દ્વારા સમાજને સ્વસ્થ બનાવવો.

‘બાળકના આહાર અને પોષણ દ્વારા તેના ભવિષ્ય’ સંબંધી સંશોધનનાં વિશાળ ક્ષેત્રો હાથ ધરવા.
વિદ્યાર્થીઓને સંશોધન અને પ્રોજેક્ટ આધારિત શિક્ષણ આપી આહાર અને પોષણ સંભાળના નિપુણ વ્યવસાયી તરીકે તૈયાર કરવા.
સમુદાયમાં જોવા મળતું કુપોષણ દૂર કરવા માટે પ્રયાસો હાથ ધરવા.

About Programmes:
Department of Home science (Foods and Nutrition) is an integral unit of the university functioning under the School of Nutrition and Health. The department has been offering the following programmes.
- M. Sc. Home science (Foods and Nutrition)
A two-year master degree programme in M.Sc. Home science (Foods and Nutrition) is aimed at imparting students with rigorous practical and theoretical principles, as well as sound ethical, professional and research skills needed to become an effective professional in the fields of Food, Nutrition and Health. The programme helps the students to develop a thorough understanding of the various approaches, theories, practices and research methodology trending in the area of Food and Nutrition. By completing this course the students will develop sensitivity to understand the importance and relevance of various problems related to Nutrition and Health. They will be able to address these problems and fulfill the concurrent needs of the field of Food and Nutrition. The students with this kind of degree and field experience will be able to serve as professionals in various public and private sector areas related to food, nutrition and health.
- PG Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics
This course is designed on the basic societal need and emerging vocational scopes in the field of nutritional and health care. This course is aimed to nurture the graduate and post graduate students and help them to become skillful counsellors in nutrition and dietetics. This kind of diploma holders will be able to work as nutritionists or dietitians at various public and private sector organizations like health care institutions, woman and child care institutions, fitness and wellness centres etc. Even they can be self-employed with the profound theoretical and practical knowledge of the field gained through this course.

- A two-year course divided in to four semesters (M.Sc. Home Science (Foods and Nutrition))
- A one-year diploma course divided into 2 semesters (PG Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics)

Student centric model in the courses:
The instructions in both the courses are mainly transacted through interactive classroom teaching, intensive student - teacher interactions, assignments, group discussions, seminars, practical, extension lectures, field visits. Smart class and laboratory sessions have been designed to accelerate the learning of the students. Besides field and lab training, students also undertake a project/dissertation on contemporary issues in various concerns field of food, nutrition and dietetics, under the guidance of competent faculty members. Further the courses also focus on preparing the student for a career that directly impacts the lives of children, youth and families by ensuring their wellness.
M. Phil. in Home Science:
M. Phil. in Home Science programme aims to enrich students with the profound understanding of the diversified range of science and humanities. The M. Phil. programme is an effective integration of both these schools of knowledge; and will help the learners to acquire the required knowledge and skills to create better human environment. This course will help the learners to be proficient in managing resources and family ecosystem as well as in providing counseling for family nutrition and child development. This course will cover essential topics like research methodology, child development and nutritional care and counseling. This Programme will equip students with an advanced training in professional competency and research skills required in careers linked to nutritional and child care as well as the child development. It is a programme enabling the learners to grab career opportunities in hospitals, community health centres, universities, and various non-government organizations.
Ph .D. in Home science:
Ph.D. in Home Science course provides an opportunity to deserving and research-oriented scholars to develop their research skills and carry out independent research through exposure to intensive research program. This programme aims to strengthen the scholar’s understanding of concurrent theory and practices in various branches of home science especially in child development. The Ph.D. offered at Children's University will emphasize on original research ideas in the areas related to child development and the researches emerging from societal needs. The researches supporting the idea of 'Tejaswi Balak : Tejasvi Bharat' will be the prime focus of the Ph.D. programme. The Programme involves systematic and cumulative training in research in order to prepare scholars for careers in independent practice, research, or academic settings. With the goal of preparing professionals or experts suitable to function competently in terms of academic, research, and community services, the department stands proactive and committed.
